You can now renew your licence, road tax, and settle other JPJ matters after work or even on weekends
The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has officially opened its new Bandar Tasik Selatan (TBS) branch, which will operate seven days a week from 8.30am to 10pm, making it the first JPJ branch in Kuala Lumpur with daily extended operating hours.
Located on the third floor of Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS), the new office officially replaces the former Bandar Sri Permaisuri branch, which had been serving the public since 2006
At the opening ceremony on 22 June, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the new branch reflects the ministry's efforts to bring government services closer to where people already travel, shop, and commute.
Unlike traditional government offices that close during standard working hours, the TBS branch uses a shift system that allows it to remain open until 10pm every day, including weekends.
He said the longer operating hours are designed for working Malaysians who may not be able to visit a JPJ office during regular business hours.
The previous Bandar Sri Permaisuri branch was handling around 1,300 customers daily, but had become increasingly overcrowded due to limited space and parking.
According to Malay Mail, the new facility covers over 14,000 square feet and can accommodate around 1,700 visitors each day — roughly 400 more than the previous branch — which is expected to shorten queues and ease overcrowding.
Loke added that TBS was selected because of its strategic location, large parking capacity, and excellent public transport connections
Besides being one of Malaysia's main transport hubs, TBS is also home to restaurants, shops, and other amenities.
That means visitors can grab a meal, do some shopping, or run other errands while waiting for their queue number instead of sitting inside the office.
He also noted that TBS has plenty of underutilised parking spaces, addressing concerns about accessibility for motorists.
To make transactions quicker, the branch also comes with several digital services that allow customers to complete certain processes more efficiently
These include:
- Self-service kiosks
- Integration with the MyJPJ application
- MyDigital ID support
- The JPJeQ queue management system
The ministry said the relocation is one of several initiatives to improve how public services are delivered, with a greater focus on convenience and digital technology.
The TBS office is also the third JPJ branch to be integrated into a commercial or transport hub, following similar concepts in Galleria Putrajaya and Bandar Baru Nilai. However, it is the first to operate seven days a week.
Loke added that more JPJ branches could eventually be opened at other major transport hubs across the country, including the upcoming Terminal Bersepadu Gombak.
