A testicle-eating fish has been caught in Sweden, prompting warnings to keep trunks on

An eight-inch pacu was caught in the Oresund Sound between Sweden and Denmark.

The Pacu, native to South America, was found by a fisherman in the Danish/Swedish strait of Oresund, according to experts at the Natural History Museum of Denmark (YouTube)

The freshwater fish is said to have a proclivity for attacking men's testicles while they swim or fish, earning it the nickname "ball cutter."

The specimen is the first one to have been caught at sea in Europe, the museum added.

In areas where pacus proliferate, fishermen have reportedly bled to death after losing their testicles to the fish’s crushing jaws.

The pacu, a relative of the piranha that is commonly found around the Amazon, can grow to up to 90cm and weigh in at a staggering 25kg.

‘The pacu is not normally dangerous to people but it has quite a serious bite, there have been incidents in other countries, such as Papua New Guinea where some men have had their testicles bitten off,’ Henrik Carl, a fish expert at the Danish museum, said.

Most Malaysian pacu fish can reach the of about 30kg

The Malaysian Chinese called pacu the “sek yan chong’ or the man eating pomfret. Actually the pacus found in Malaysia are of the Colossoma genus and can reach the size of about 30kg.

It was first brought into the country as aquarium pets. Later, because of its fast growing abilities and size, some fish farmers reared them as food fish. The Malaysian public never cultivated a taste for its meat so it never gain as much popularity as the tilapia.
