A schoolboy has passed away following a tragic accident in front of a shopping mall in Jalan Tun Razak, Johor Bahru at around 2pm today, 2 January

Photos and details of the incident were posted on Facebook community page "JB TRACER: Johor Bahru Traffic, Crime & Community Service Report" by Facebook user Harry Cyclone.

The boy, clad in a school uniform and believed to be a Form Four student, was said to be riding a motorcycle when a van sped past a red light and knocked down the victim

In an appalling turn of events, a passerby came over and pretended to look for the boy's phone to "call his parents", only to run off with the phone instead

"All of us were helping this boy and all of a sudden this guy came, checking the boy's phone to call the parents but he took the phone and ran away. What kind of f***ed up people is this," Harry Cyclone wrote.

As for the driver of the van who hit the schoolboy, Harry Cyclone claimed that he attempted to escape the scene but eyewitnesses managed to stop him

According to a report by The Star, Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Shahurinain Jais confirmed the case, adding that investigations are ongoing.
