A morning blaze at a two-storey indoor cannabis cultivation facility in Pattaya, Thailand, sent thick, pungent smoke billowing across a residential area on 25 September

The fire left several nearby residents, responding firefighters, and police officers suffering from acute headaches and dizziness after unintentionally inhaling the fumes, according to the Thaiger.

The disaster response centre in Pattaya received an urgent distress call at approximately 7.36am. First responders, volunteer rescue teams, and police units immediately rushed to the scene.

Despite steady rainfall, large crowds of residents gathered outside as two fire engines deployed high-pressure water hoses to tackle the flames.

Dense plumes of smoke quickly blanketed the surrounding neighbourhood, carrying a strong cannabis odour through the damp morning air.

Firefighters battled the blaze for roughly 30 minutes before bringing the situation under control

Subsequent inspections revealed that the residential property, owned by a foreigner, had been converted into a full-scale indoor growing operation, according to a 60-year-old neighbour.

The fire caused extensive damage to growing equipment and destroyed large quantities of mature cannabis plants across both floors.

Although authorities reported no deaths or burn injuries, the health effects of the toxic smoke became evident almost immediately

Multiple emergency responders and nearby onlookers experienced sudden lightheadedness and nausea, forcing them to retreat to a safer distance from the property.

A 47-year-old female employee working at the farm recounted seeing bright electrical sparks shooting from a main power control box shortly before hearing an explosion-like sound

Flames quickly spread across the indoor crops, prompting her to alert emergency services.

Police officers photographed the destroyed facility and questioned staff on-site, with initial assessments pointing to an electrical short circuit as the probable cause.

Forensic investigators continue to examine the scene, and a full assessment of total financial losses remains underway.
