Penang Woman Ends Up Giving Birth In Car After A Public Hospital Allegedly Turned Her Away
A Penang Health Department spokesman has said the department is investigating the matter.
A pregnant woman ended up delivering her baby in the car after a public hospital turned her away, saying she was not going into labour
According to a post on a Facebook page called 'PenangKu Viral', the woman from Sungai Ara, George Town, had checked into the hospital on the mainland at 11am after there were signs that labour was imminent. There was no mention of the day on which the incident occurred.
About an hour and a half later, a doctor came to check on her and found that her cervix was only dilated to 2cm. Following which, at 3.15pm, the woman was told to go home as the hospital told her that she was not going into labour.
However, the woman and her husband pleaded with the hospital staff to let them stay as they stay quite a distance away from the hospital. The hospital disregarded their pleas and sent them away.
Unable to do anything, they were forced to leave for home
They were home by around 5.15pm.
At around 7pm, the woman told her husband that she needed to be rushed to the hospital again.
According to the post, when they checked Waze for traffic situations, it showed that Penang General Hospital was 50 minutes away while Seberang Jaya Hospital was an hour and 20 minutes away.
The woman ended up delivering her baby in the car before her husband could reach any of the public hospitals.
He then took her to the nearest private hospital, where they had to pay an "unexpected" bill.
A Penang Health Department spokesman said the matter is being investigated
According to the spokesperson, the department will come up with a report after completing its investigation and will forward it to the Ministry of Health.
