A monorail carrying passengers suddenly caught on fire today, 24 December

According to Harian Metro, the train was headed to KL Sentral and went up in flames around 7.27am at the Maharajalela monorail station.

21 firemen from the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department were dispatched to the scene.

Thankfully, all passengers managed to escape and no one was harmed.

Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Mohamad Iqbal Zakaria told The Star, "All the passengers had safely escaped from the car before the firemen arrived. The fire was put out by 8.56am. The cause of the fire is being investigated."

He then added that the driver's cabin and one of the monorail coaches caught fire, but no passengers were injured.

The incident caused all train services between KL Sentral and Maharajalela to be halted.

Therefore, Rapid KL has decided to provide passengers with free shuttle van service between the two locations.
