Dr Fadi Al Batsh, the 35-year-old private university lecturer from Palestine who was gunned down in front of Idaman Puteri condominium in Setapak, led a simple family life while devoting his time as an Imam to raise awareness about issues in Palestine

According to his students, the Malay-speaking lecturer loved Palestine and often share stories about his country with them, speaking about his family and the oppression of the Palestinians, Harian Metro reported earlier today, 22 April.

"His office is full of various posters about Gaza and the Palestinian struggle against the atrocities of the Zionist regime," a 22-year-old student was quoted as saying.

A foreign student, who is studying in Malaysia and who knew Dr Fadi for the past two years, says the slain lecturer was friendly and he never preached any hatred. "He preaches good things. I am shocked by the killing," he told Al Jazeera.

The lecturer, who had lived in Malaysia for the past 10 years, leaves behind a wife and three young children, aged one, five and six.

On Facebook, a photo album showing Dr Fadi's life with his family and as his position as an Imam has gone viral.

The photo album, uploaded by a humanitarian agency Aqsa Syarif run by MyCARE, described Dr Fadi as a "humble family man" who completely memorised the Qur'an.

With his expertise in Electrical Engineering, he had hoped to go back and rebuild Gaza, the post on Facebook said, adding that he was associated with MyCare since 2014.
