A TOTAL of 462,940 candidates will sit the Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) examination today in 3,530 centres nationwide.
The examination will go on tomorrow, after which it will continue from Oct 7 to 9.
Of the total number of candidates, 430,146 are from government schools, government-aided schools and government-aided religious schools, 6,024 from schools under government agencies other than the Education Ministry and 9,906 from state-run religious schools.
A total of 13,637 candidates are from private schools registered under the ministry, 1,008 private candidates and 2,219 from religious schools.
This will be the last year for PMR as it will be replaced with School-Based Assessment in 2014
THE School-Based Assessment, better known by its Malay acronym PBS (Pentaksiran Ber-asaskan Sekolah) was introduced last year in all government and government-aided primary schools, and this year in all government and government-aided secondary schools.
Thus, the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) in 2016 and the Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) in 2014 will be revamped to accommodate the transformation.
