Police Detain 57-Year-Old Man In Kajang For Allegedly Strangling NGO Worker To Death

The victim is a former student at the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) who has been serving with the Ikram Headquarters since 2013.

A woman was recently found strangled to death in her home in Kajang, Selangor

According to Bernama, her body was found at Taman Bangi, Jalan Reko, on Monday, 8 March.

Kajang police chief ACP Mohd Zaid Hassan said the victim has been identified as Nik Khatijah Nik Mud and she was found by her male colleague at 9am.

Initial checks found ligature marks on the victim's neck.

It is believed that she had died more than 24 hours before being discovered.

Harian Metro reported that the victim is a former student at the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) who has been serving with the Ikram Headquarters since 2013. She was an executive of the Women's Department and prior to her death, she acted as the manager of the Advocacy Department.

Mohd Zaid Hassan said that his team received a Malaysian Emergency Response Services 999 (MERS 999) call from a man who informed that he had found the woman's body. 

"The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder," he added.

Police have detained a suspect linked to the murder

The suspect is a 57-year-old man and he was arrested in Kajang last night, around 8.45pm, The Star reported.

He will be remanded from today.
