SUNGAI PETANI: Three Indonesians, believe to be members of an armed-robbery gang were gunned down after they opened fire on a police team in an oil palm estate in Kuala Ketil here early today.

Kedah Police chief Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim said the shooting took place at 4.30 am after a police officer and seven personnel engaged in the ‘Op Cantas Khas’ operation ordered a car with three men they were following to stop.

The team, which was travelling in two cars tried to flag down the car upon sensing something amiss.

However the car driver sped off, prompting the team to give them a chase.
