Former Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar has announced that she will resign as PKR deputy president to pursue further studies
In a Facebook post yesterday, 6 August, Nurul Izzah said she will remain a PKR member while embarking on a new chapter focused on furthering her studies, one that remains in service and dedication, though not necessarily tied to politics.
"I am confident that Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who will be assuming the duties of deputy president, and Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, as the election director, will carry out this trust with utmost wisdom, prudence, and diligence in shouldering the hopes of the people.
"I pray that all their affairs will be eased in bearing this responsibility," said the 45-year-old politician, adding that she will meet party members at the PKR National Congress on 14 and 15 August.
Her resignation comes a year after she won the highly contested deputy presidency against Rafizi Ramli
The election reportedly deepened divisions within the party, with Rafizi subsequently leaving PKR.
Former PKR vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad also left the party alongside Rafizi, who later took over an existing party and relaunched it as Bersama.
