"Pray He Recovers Soon" — Batang Kali Rescue Op Takes Its Toll On Selangor Fire Dept Chief
He has been spearheading search and rescue (SAR) operations, working tirelessly.
Last night, 19 December, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) director Datuk Norazam Khamis was rushed to the Selayang Hospital after he suffered from exhaustion and a minor stroke
The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Operations Centre, in a statement, said that Norazam was rushed to the hospital but he is reported to be in stable condition, reported New Straits Times.
Norazam with his team has been at the forefront of the Batang Kali landslide rescue operations since early morning on 16 December, when the fatal incident hit the Father's Organic Farm.
He has been spearheading search and rescue (SAR) operations, working tirelessly.
While his men worked on SAR operations on a rotational basis, Norazam was scouting the area and discussing rescue strategies at all times of the day and night, according to the New Straits Times' report.
The department hopes that he recovers soon
The SAR operation is still ongoing to locate the remaining nine victims believed to be buried at the site after 450,000 cubic metres of mud came down towards campsites at about 2.24am on Friday.
"The search and rescue efforts (for the Batang Kali landslide) will continue. Let's all pray for him, for Dato Wira Merah (Norazam) to have a speedy recovery," read the statement issued by the department.
Norazam is under medical surveillance at the emergency ward and would be kept under observation for at least 48 hours, according to a spokesperson, reported Free Malaysia Today.
