A teenage pregnancy case in Serian, Sarawak has led to a shocking discovery of a girl who was allegedly raped by her own family members
New Straits Times reported that the 19-year-old was admitted to the Serian Hospital at about 2.30pm last Friday, 11 August.
Medical checkup has confirmed that the girl was 25 weeks pregnant and the hospital staff informed the police about the case.
When quizzed her about the circumstances of her pregnancy, the girl revealed that she has been repeatedly raped by her own father, grandfather, and two uncles for the past six years.
The victim claimed that her 14-year-old sister was also sexually abused by their relatives since she was nine years old
All of these incidents are said to have happened at their house in Kampung Daha Seroban, Serian.
It was reported that the siblings did not go to school.
The four suspects were arrested on Saturday, 12 August
It was reported that all the suspects were arrested at at their house at about 3.30pm as Inspector Vimal Nathan led the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team to carry out the arrest.
Sarawak CID chief Datuk Dev Kumar said the suspects are between the age of 26 and 57 and they all work as farmers.
They have been remanded for seven days as the case is being investigated under Section 376B of the Penal Code for incest. Those convicted can be sentenced to a maximum of 30 years' imprisonment and whipped.
Meanwhile, The Sun reported that the Sarawak Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development has stepped in to ensure that the wellbeing of the victims are being taken care.
According to its minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah, the 19-year-old victim would be placed in a convent in Serian while her younger sister would be provided protection at Rumah Kanak Kanak Toh Puan Norkiah, pending a court order that will be produced today, 14 August.
