A Group Of Men Slapped And Kicked A Staff At A Publika Eatery When Asked To Pay Their Bill
A slightly over two-minute-long CCTV footage, uploaded on Facebook on last Sunday, 10 June, shows a group of men slapping and kicking a staff at an eatery in Publika at Solaris Dutamas, allegedly because they didn't want to pay their RM77.90 bill
The group, after having eaten their breakfast, allegedly didn't want to pay the bill and so they started the ruckus in order to find a way to avoid paying.
Malaysian Indian's Forum, a Facebook page which uploaded the CCTV footage, alleges that the group first complained about the food quality. However, when the eatery staff insisted them to pay, a couple of men from the group threw a plate of gravy on the floor.
The restaurant owner, Ekbal Hussain Mohamed Gani, told NST Online that the incident took place at 11am when he was away
"I got a call from my workers about the incident and rushed to the shop but the group had already left," Ekbal explained to NST Online.
According to Ekbal, the incident started after the group complained about the service and threw a plate of gravy on the floor.
"I was told that the group was unruly from the time they arrived but the actual problem started when they were asked to pay for the food they ate.
"That is when they began hurling vulgarities at my workers, threatening them and even hitting one of them," Ekbal said, adding that one of his workers, a foreigner, was hit repeatedly on his head and face, by two of the men.
"My worker had to seek treatment after which we lodged a police report over the incident," NST Online quoted the restaurant owner as saying yesterday, 16 June.
After the report was lodged, police arrested two of the suspects on the same day, according to Sentul police chief ACP R Munusamy
"That night at about 11.30pm we arrested two of the suspects in Kepong, where else the third suspect was picked up the next day evening, to facilitate the investigation," ACP Munusamy was quoted as saying by NST Online.
Police have also recorded statements from a few witnesses at the scene and they are investigating the case under Section 323 for Voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
