QR Code Trial For Malaysians To Speed Up Immigration Checks At KLIA Terminals 1 & 2
With QR codes, immigration checks take between five and seven seconds.
The government has announced the implementation of Quick Response (QR) codes for Malaysians to streamline immigration checks at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminals 1 and 2
This system will be on a trial basis starting this month and will be implemented in 40 special lanes at KLIA Terminals 1 and 2, reported Bernama.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced that QR codes in the arrival and departure areas aim to resolve congestion issues at the country's entry points, including KLIA, especially during festive seasons and peak periods.
The use of QR codes reduces immigration check times to between 5 and 7 seconds, compared to 15 and 25 seconds with conventional automatic gates
Saifuddin also noted that using latest technology will enhance security, improve service efficiency, and reduce leakages.
"With the QR code system, travellers do not need to take out their passports during immigration checks but must have their passports with them throughout their journey," he remarked.
Despite the QR code system, travellers can still use manual counters and existing conventional automatic gates as usual
Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah previously mentioned in December that the government was considering a new QR code-based system to speed up checks at immigration counters, especially at KLIA, to reduce congestion.
