The police have the arrested the woman who allegedly whipped a suspect that raped her 13-year-old daughter. State CID chief Asst Comm Lai Yong Heng said the woman, 38, was arrested with her husband, 40, and 22-year-old son on Friday night.

"The three suspects were arrested at their home Kampung Gong Bayor, Kampung Raja, Terengganu at 9pm, by a CID team from the Kelantan police contingent. They have been remanded under Section 326 of the Criminal Procedure Code for seven days to facilitate investigations. The police are doing their duty to uphold law and order, despite the reaction from the public who sympathised with the suspects."

"They allegedly caused grievous hurt to the suspects, which is a serious crime, and it is natural for the police to act and investigate the case," ACP Lai said when contacted on Saturday.

The suspect, who suffered welts on his buttocks, hands and face, was apprehended by the 22-year-old brother and father of the teenager and was later handed to police for further action. Police had to send the suspect to the Universiti Sains Hospital at Kubang Kerian after he suffered blood clots in his head, but was later discharged.

ACP Lai warned the public not to take the law into their hands even if they believe that they have the right

“People should not take the law into their own hands even if they believe they are right to do so. They must leave it to the police to act. In this case, we hope that the woman and the others seen in the video will surrender themselves before they are arrested.”

ACP Lai said although the public could make citizen’s arrests and hand over suspects to the police under the Criminal Procedure Code, they were not allowed to dispense any form of punishment.

Many believed the mother had a right to her actions considering the trauma faced by the victim and her family. Franco Kailsan wrote, "temporary insanity from the shock of finding out her beloved daughter was raped. If she is found guilty, I will personally write to the Agong to appeal for a a royal pardon".
