Rapid KL will extend the operating hours of selected rail and bus services to 24 hours on 30 and 31 August to facilitate public movement during the 2026 National Day celebrations
In a statement today, 21 August, Rapid KL announced that the 24-hour operation will cover all the rail services it operates, including the LRT, MRT, and KL Monorail.
To accommodate the expected increase in passengers, train frequencies will also be increased on several major routes and adjusted according to demand and conditions at stations.
"Additional trains will also be deployed if necessary based on monitoring of passenger numbers and platform congestion levels," it said.

In addition to rail services, the Sunway BRT service, several bus routes, and Rapid KL On-Demand services will also operate 24 hours over the two days
The operator said this will provide the public with more travel options throughout the celebrations.
"The extended operating hours are intended to ensure smoother movement for the public, particularly those attending the Merdeka Eve celebrations on the night of 30 August and the National Day celebrations in Putrajaya on the morning of 31 August," it said.

To support public transportation to the National Day celebration venue in Putrajaya, Rapid KL will also provide free shuttle bus services across two routes in Putrajaya:
- MS01: Putrajaya Sentral Station to Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, Precinct 2 — 2pm on 30 August to 2pm on 31 August
- MS02: Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) to Jalan Tun Hussein, Precinct 3 — 4am to 2pm on 31 August

Rapid KL also said more than 5,000 frontline personnel from various units will be deployed in shifts on 30 and 31 August to ensure smooth operations throughout the celebrations
They will support service operations, manage crowd movement, and ensure passenger flows at stations and high-traffic locations remain smooth and safe.
Rapid KL encouraged the public to use public transport when travelling to National Day celebration venues to help reduce traffic congestion.
Passengers are also advised to plan their journeys in advance, ensure they have sufficient balance on their Touch 'n Go cards, and follow instructions from staff, particularly at stations and areas with high passenger density.
