Report: AG Idrus Harun To Be Replaced Soon

A new Attorney General (AG) will be appointed soon, reported The Star today, 15 December, citing a highly-placed government source

According to the English daily, the new AG will be from a list of three judges whose names have been presented to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim before he can advise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

"The trio comprises one judge from the Court of Appeal and two from the High Court," The Star quoted the unnamed source as saying.

The judges named are:
- Datuk Ahmad Fairuz Zainol Abidin,
- Datuk Seri Kamaludin Md Said, and
- Datuk Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh

It was reported that the appointment will be made before the end of December.

Idrus, who is serving his second term as the AG, was first appointed on 6 March 2020.

He replaced Tan Sri Tommy Thomas who had resigned from the position in late February 2020 amidst the political crisis at the time that saw the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) Federal government.

Idrus' reappointment as the AG for another year took place on 6 March this year.

Meanwhile, his brother, Tan Sri Azhar Harun, will officially step down from the post of Dewan Rakyat Speaker on 18 December:
