Public Service Dept Director-General Shafiq Abdullah Has Been Fired
Datuk Seri Mohd Shafiq Abdullah's services were terminated effective 12 December.
Putrajaya has terminated the services of Datuk Seri Mohd Shafiq Abdullah as the Public Service Department (JPA) director-general
His termination took effect yesterday, 12 December, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali confirmed in a statement today, 13 December.
According to New Straits Times, Zuki said the action was taken in accordance with Civil Servants Regulation 49(3) (Conduct and Discipline) 1993, and Mohd Shafiq was retired under Section 10(5)(d) of the Pension Act 1980.
"The decision was taken after going through all the procedures for Termination in the Public Interest (PDKA) and being scrutinised for regularity by the Attorney-General's Chamber (AGC)," he said in the statement today.
The Chief Secretary said that on behalf of the government, he expresses his deepest appreciation and gratitude to Mohd Shafiq for his service and devotion to the country as a civil servant.
The termination of Mohd Shafiq's services comes barely 10 months after he was appointed as the JPA director-general on 10 February
More recently, he courted controversy after an immigration officer, who was on duty as the immigration operations head at KLIA, complained that Mohd Shafiq had hurled abusive remarks at him in public.
The incident, which occurred in August, saw the Immigration Services Union of Peninsular Malaysia (KPISM) express its disappointment over Mohd Shafiq's behaviour towards the officer.
"The office personnel was called, yelled at, berated, and asked to stand up straight by the director-general in the middle of a crowd. His behaviour also showed selfishness and ignorance towards the rest of the public who were patiently queueing at the regular counters," KPISM said in its statement at the time.
Malaysiakini reported that while a committee was set up to investigate the spat between Mohd Syafiq and the immigration officer, it is unknown if any action was taken against Mohd Syafiq for his behaviour.
