Starting today, 13 September, restaurants and convenience stores in Selangor can now continue to operate past midnight until 2am

This was announced via a brief statement earlier Sunday by Selangor's Local Government, Public Transport and New Village Development Committee chairman Ng Sze Han.

He said that after having contained the COVID-19 situation in the state during the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO), it is now time to deal with and restore the economy.

According to Han, the decision to allow for the operating hours to be extended until 2am in the Selangor state was taken after the announcement by the National Security Council (NSC).

"Following the announcement of the operating hours of restaurants and convenience stores allowed to be extended until 2am by the National Security Council, the Selangor State Government has decided to also allow restaurants and convenience stores in the State of Selangor to operate until 2am," he said.

"The case of COVID-19 in the State of Selangor is under control during the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO), now is the time to deal with and restore the economy."

The statement reminded that visitors and store operators must continue to comply with the standard operating procedure (SOP)

"Prevention of the spread of COVID-19 is still the state government's priority," it read.

"In line with that, visitors and store operators are reminded to always comply with the SOP that is fixed by the National Security Council and to practise physical distancing."

This comes after the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) on Saturday, 12 September, reversed the decision by NSC, saying that restaurants and other outlets in the city will have to shut their operations by 12am:
