The government has reduced the retail prices of diesel and petrol effective today, 28 May, following a decline in average international fuel prices last week
However, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) said the reduction does not mean that global petroleum market pressures have eased, as uncertainty linked to the ongoing conflict in West Asia, which has lasted more than 12 weeks, continues to affect the market.
Fuel prices for the period between 28 May and 3 June are as follows:
– RON97: RM4.65 per litre (down 20 sen)
– Unsubsidised RON95: RM3.92 per litre (down 15 sen)
– Diesel in Peninsular Malaysia: RM4.87 per litre (down 10 sen)
Meanwhile, subsidised RON95 under the BUDI95 programme remains unchanged at RM1.99 per litre
Diesel prices in Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan also remain unchanged at RM2.15 per litre.
According to MOF, the government continues to maintain the subsidised RON95 price through the BUDI95 programme for more than 14 million eligible recipients, with over 90% of the country's fuel consumption involving subsidy recipients.
"At the current unsubsidised RON95 price of RM3.92 per litre, 200 litres would cost RM784," the ministry said.
This means the government subsidises RM386 for each recipient who fully utilises their BUDI95 entitlement, while eligible Malaysians only pay RM398 per month for 200 litres of RON95.
The government has urged the public to use fuel prudently through better travel planning and reducing unnecessary journeys to help ensure the country's fuel supply remains secure amid uncertain global market conditions.
