Several roads around Dataran Merdeka will be closed in stages from 21 to 27 July to make way for Citrawarna 2026, one of Malaysia's largest cultural celebrations held as part of the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign
The biggest closure will involve Jalan Raja, located directly in front of Dataran Merdeka.
The road will be fully closed from 12pm on Tuesday, 21 July until 5am on Monday, 27 July to allow for event preparations, operations, and dismantling works.
According to the organisers, motorists should avoid the area during this period and use alternative routes where possible.
Additional road closures will take place during the Colours of Parade, the highlight of Citrawarna 2026
For the rehearsal, roads will be closed on:
- 24 July (Friday): 9pm to 2am
For the main parade, closures will take place on:
- 25 July (Saturday): 6pm to 11pm
The affected roads include:
- Bulatan Dato' Onn to Jalan Parlimen
- Jalan Raja Laut
- Jalan Esfahan
- Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman
- Jalan Tun Perak
- Jalan Kinabalu access road to Jalan Sultan Hishamuddin
Emergency lanes will remain available throughout the closure period.
With thousands of visitors expected over the three-day festival, organisers are encouraging the public to use public transport when heading to Dataran Merdeka for a smoother journey
Those driving into the city are advised to plan ahead, follow traffic diversions, and allow extra travel time.
To make getting there a little easier, Grab will be offering an RM3 e-hailing voucher to the first 1,000 users each day from 24 to 26 July.
A total of 3,000 vouchers worth RM9,000 will be available throughout the three-day event. The promo code and redemption details will be announced later via the organisers' official social media channels.
