Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor said friends from overseas have contributed towards the RM50 million fine that her husband, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, is required to pay to fulfil the conditions of his house arrest
In a Facebook post yesterday, 20 September, the 74-year-old said Najib has received donations not just from Malaysians, but also from abroad, including Canada, Italy, Singapore, and Brunei.
"I am touched… They contacted me to express their happiness over the latest developments concerning my husband, while also expressing their intention to contribute.
"They want to see him return to his family. That is all. I never expected so many people to still care and be willing to help with full sincerity," she wrote.
Rosmah, who is also convicted in a corruption case that is currently pending appeal, added that the donations have made her realise who her true friends are in times of hardship and joy.
At the same time, UMNO has also launched the Najib Razak Solidarity Fund to help pay for his fine
As of Saturday morning, 19 September, the fund received almost RM1 million in donations.
Launched by UMNO last Friday, 18 September, the fund raised RM634,562.02 within its first three hours.
UMMO secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said many donors contributed amounts as little as RM10 to RM50.
Najib is required to pay the RM50 million fine, failing which his pardon may be revoked and he would be required to serve the remainder of his sentence in prison, reported the New Straits Times.
