Thousands of local football fans turned Dataran Merdeka into a massive viewing party for the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, but left behind piles of rubbish after the event

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) shared a Facebook post expressing deep disappointment over the waste left behind.

The city council reminded the public that while its workers would clean up the area, maintaining public spaces should not fall solely on them.

"A great city is not judged only by the crowds it attracts, but by the condition in which it is left after they have gone," DBKL said.
