A report has revealed that Singapore is among the top five wealthiest cities in 2022 with about 250,000 millionaires and 26 billionaires

The report was recently published by investment migration consultancy Henley & Partners, which was written by Andrew Amoils, the head of research at wealth intelligence firm New World Wealth.

According to the ranking, New York, Tokyo, San Francisco Bay area, and London took the first four spots, with 345,600, 304,900, 276,400, and 272,400 millionaires in the cities, respectively.

Singapore, one of six Asian cities in the top 20 list, came next with 249,800 millionaires, 336 centi-millionaires, and 26 billionaires.

Centi-millionaires are people with a net worth of over USD100 million.

Because Singapore is a city-state, the figure suggests that 4.6% of the country's 5.45 million population is millionaires

When compared with Malaysia, only 0.2% of adult Malaysians were categorised in the over USD1 million wealth bracket, reported The Malaysian Reserve citing a 2019 Credit Suisse Group AG's report.

Henley & Partners noted that Singapore is one of the top destinations for migrating millionaires and that it is often regarded as the world's most business-friendly city.

"A net inflow of approximately 2,800 high-net-worth individuals is projected for 2022 alone, according to the latest Henley Private Wealth Migration Dashboard," it added.

While the city-state has 55,100 fewer millionaires when compared with Japan, it has 73 centi-millionaires and 14 billionaires more than Japan.
