On Wednesday, 14 October 2026, another Singapore-flagged vessel, GFS Giselle, suffered hull damage in a projectile strike

The ship managed to reach a safe anchorage, with all 22 crew members unharmed, according to the BBC.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards claimed the GFS Pride hit naval mines while sailing along an "unauthorised" route.

They released images showing thick black smoke billowing from the sinking ship, with dozens of containers floating nearby.

Merchant ships have faced relentless attacks in the region since the war between the US, Israel, and Iran erupted in February 2026

The United Nations International Maritime Organization (IMO) confirmed that 106 incidents had resulted in the deaths of at least 24 seafarers.

Previously, the Malta-flagged Safeen Prestige sank in March, and the Antigua and Barbuda-flagged Cape Dao reportedly began sinking in September.

To protect global shipping, the US military is currently escorting tankers travelling along the southern Omani route.
