Her motorcycle skidded and she crashed into an electric pole at Kampung Pak Elong, Tangok. She sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot.

A witness who was having breakfast nearby said that she saw Siti coming from the Kampung Telong direction, and was bearing down on the thief before she crashed.

"I ran towards the victim lying on the road and found her dead," Syuhada Abd Malik was quoted as saying by Free Malaysia Today.

According to the Kelantan deputy police chief SAC Din Ahmad, Siti chased the thief for over 800m before the accident happened.

Siti's son expressed shock and regret when he learned that his mother died while trying to catch a snatch thief

Mohd Ali Che Hassan said that his mother had faithfully woke him up every day to ask him to buy breakfast. However, Siti, who was an assistant cook at the Universiti Malaysia Kelantan cafeteria, left the house without doing so yesterday.

Siti is survived by six children and husband, Che Hassan Che Ibrahim, who was away from home as he worked in Kuantan.

It was reported that Siti's remains were sent to the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital in Kota Bharu.

Meanwhile, the police have launched a manhunt for the snatch thief

The police also reminded the public not to apprehend assailants when faced with such a situation, as they may endanger themselves and others.

"I advise people not to take matters into their own hands. Instead, immediately contact the police if they are victims of theft because it could be dangerous if they act on their own,” Din Ahmad said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act.
