SPM 2023 Results Are Out: A Total Of 11,713 Candidates Scored Straight A's

The results of the 2023 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination have demonstrated notable improvements, with the National Average Grade (GPN) recorded at 4.60, better than 2022, when it was 4.74

A lower GPN reflects a higher level of achievement on the exam.

According to Education Director-General Azman Adnan, a total of 11,713 candidates scored Grades A+, A, and A- in all subjects, marking a significant increase in the number of candidates achieving straight A's.

In comparison, 10,109 candidates scored straight A's in 2022.

There has also been a marked increase in the number of candidates obtaining at least a passing grade in all subjects

Azman said 83,112 candidates obtained average results with at least a grade C for all subjects in 2023, compared to 75,322 candidates in 2022, as reported by Berita Harian.

"A total of 131,480 candidates passed all subjects in the 2023 SPM results, an increase of 3,296 candidates compared to 128,193 candidates in 2022.

"This year, the percentage of candidates eligible to receive the SPM certificate is 349,297 candidates, equivalent to 93.5%, compared to 342,742 candidates, equivalent to 91.6 % in 2022," he added.

However, fewer candidates sat for SPM in 2023 compared to 2022

373,525 candidates sat for SPM in 2023, compared to 373,974 in 2022, marking a difference of 449.

Meanwhile, Azman mentioned that the performance of urban and rural candidates in SPM 2023 showed improvement, though the achievement gap remained at 0.43 points, similar to SPM 2022.

Additionally, some 10,000 Form Five students skipped SPM 2023, compared to 30,000 in 2022.

"We will identify and analyse the reasons one by one and carry out interventions to ensure this issue is properly tackled," he said after announcing the SPM 2023 results analysis today, 27 May.

Candidates can obtain their exam results from their respective schools starting today.
