Malaysia's national flag football teams are bringing home two medals after competing in the 2026 Southeast Asia Flag Football Championship in Jakarta, Indonesia
Held from 16 to 18 October at GBK Rugby Field, the championship featured national teams from Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines, and Vietnam.
Malaysia's women's team won silver after reaching the final, while the men's team secured bronze after beating Singapore.

Malaysia's women's team finished second after losing 28–20 to hosts Indonesia in the final
Despite missing out on gold, the team put up a stronger fight against Indonesia than in their earlier group-stage meeting.
The eight-point difference showed how much closer Malaysia came to beating the hosts, making the silver medal an encouraging result for the team.

Meanwhile, Malaysia's men's team clinched bronze with a 48–26 victory over Singapore
The win was especially sweet as Malaysia had lost to Singapore earlier in the tournament. This time, the team came back stronger to secure the win and finish on the podium.
Their performance showed that the team could learn from an earlier loss and come back fighting when it mattered most.

Beyond the medals, both teams have shown promising progress as Malaysian flag football continues to grow.
The sport is also gearing up for a major milestone, as flag football will make its Olympic debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games

Before then, Malaysia will have another chance to test its skills against regional competitors at the 2027 IFAF Asia Flag Football Championships
For now, the silver and bronze medals are a proud achievement for Team Malaysia, giving local flag football fans plenty to look forward to as the sport continues to gain momentum.
