A total of 1,336 candidates scored a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average (CGPA) in the 2025 Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examination
According to Malaysian Examinations Council chairman Professor Datuk Md Amin Md Taff, the figure represents 3.5% of the 40,199 candidates who sat the exam, an increase from 3.06% recorded in 2024.
The improvement also pushed the national STPM CGPA up from 2.85 last year to 2.88 this year, the highest since the modular system was introduced in 2013.
The modular system replaced the traditional single year-end examination with continuous assessments across three semesters.
Md Amin said the 2025 national CGPA is 12.06% higher than when the system was first implemented in 2013, when the national average stood at 2.57
Speaking at the announcement of the 2025 STPM results yesterday, 18 June, he said 38,128 candidates, or 99.96% of the 40,199 students who registered for the examination, qualified to receive the STPM certificate.
He also noted that the number of candidates obtaining straight 5A's increased to 60 from 53 last year.
Meanwhile, the number of candidates who obtained straight 4A's rose to 1,285 from 1,228 last year.
Md Amin added that the percentage of candidates achieving CGPAs of 3.75, 3.00, 2.75, as well as 2.00 and above, also increased compared to the previous year.
