On 24 June, a dashboard cam video of a hatchback car crashing into a police patrol car went viral on social media just hours after it was posted on Facebook

In the video, a Volkswagen Polo was seen speeding along the Jalan Pudu underpass before crashing into a police patrol car (a Proton Waja) in its path. Shockingly, the VW stepped on the gas and pushed the patrol car to the right-sided divider before speeding off!

According to the recording's timestamp, the incident occured on 22 June sometime after 9.00am.

Two police officers then exited from their vehicle looking completely bewildered, with one of them holding onto a rifle. Both officers were said to have suffered minor cuts and bruises.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Police investigation and traffic law officer Deputy Supt S. Markandan said the incident occurred at around 8.55am on Monday.

“Two policemen were on crime patrol rounds in the patrol car along Jalan Pudu heading towards the city when the car driver was reported to have lost control and rammed into it. The impact of the collision sent the police car spinning several times before it hit the barrier,” he said.

City traffic police deputy chief Deputy Superintendent S. Markandan said that the driver of the Volkswagen Polo, a 21-year-old college student, lodged a police report later that day. The youth was believed to be intoxicated while driving.

“The driver didn’t suffer any serious injury and had come forward to lodge a police report," Markandan said.
