Respect for teachers has been an ageless tradition in China. However, in these modern times where traditions get corrupted, some students, it would appear, are starting to revolt!

The above GIF is from a video, filmed on mobile camera, that shows a classroom brawl between high school students and their teacher in Anhui province where a teacher grabbed a student's neck, and in retaliation for the teacher's act, a group of students then rain down wild punches and slaps on the seemingly defenseless teacher.

According to a report in the BBC, the fight took place at Fanji High School in Mengcheng county last Friday, during an English night class, when the middle-aged teacher was collecting test scripts from students and one student refused to hand in his paper

As can be seen in the GIF above, after the teacher tries to fight his way to safety, a student then lashes out with a large yellow school book. All in all, it's about a minute of total classroom chaos at the end of which the teacher is left completely dishevelled.

The footage has since been shared widely on the Internet, with many on Weibo expressing shock and disgust at the incident. According to BBC, netizens have sided with the teacher, condemning the students for their "disrespectful" behaviour.

One user likened a teacher to "a father for the rest of your life" while another said that respecting the teacher is "the most basic starting point, if you can't even respect your teacher then you can't respect anything."

On the other hand, while some argued that the teacher should have used more force in disciplining the students, a few also found fault with the teacher, saying it was not right for him to have grabbed the student's neck, the BBC reported.
