The first day of school can be quite a dramatic event. Some children could be really excited while some may not even stop crying till the day ends. But it was all fun and laughter for students in these Johor schools, all thanks to their cool teachers.

These dedicated educators at SK Sri Rengit and SK Taman Scientex did something out of the ordinary for their students: they put on their costumes and celebrated the return of students and welcomed the news ones on the first day of school.

Students at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sri Rengit in Batu Pahat, Johor were all smiles when two Ultraman characters surprised them in a warm welcome.

On the other hand, two popular Disney characters Mickey and Minnie Mouse were spotted at the entrance of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Taman Scientex in Pasir Gudang, Johor.

Meanwhile, Mickey and Minnie Mouse definitely displayed some great hospitality that day

The idea to welcome students in costumed characters came out of the goodwill to give students an interesting start to school

It was reported that the principals of the schools said that they wanted students to be relieved of their fears and anxiety as well as to motivate both students and teachers on the first day of school.

"When students feel good coming to school, they will have fun learning and the teachers will response in a similar fashion," SK Taman Scientex headmistress Ramlah Othman reportedly said, adding that the response from parents was very encouraging.

This wasn't the first time the school had implemented this idea as students were welcomed in a similar style as popular local animation characters Upin and Ipin, and Kung Fu Panda characters made special appearances at the first day of school last year.

The schools' unique approach in making the first day of school an exciting experience for new students has certainly warmed the hearts of many Malaysians across the country

Netizens have poured in with praises for the teachers and schools for such creative initiative to welcome students to the new school term.

Going back to school and work on Sunday, 1 January, could be a rather challenging task after the holiday break, but these teachers have made it easier for parents and their children.

It is noted that New Year's Day is not a public holiday in Johor while schools and working days in begin on a Sunday in the state.

The simple gesture of playing dress-up to welcome students was greatly appreciated by many people, particularly parents

"As a parent, having teachers and Ultraman on the first day of school greeting my son with smiles created a fun atmosphere," Rahimah Mohd Noor, a parent to a boy schooling SK Taman Scientex told The Star.

"The children are happy so I think this is a very good effort made by the school to relieve the nervousness of the children," she said.

Besides Johor, more superheroes made their presence felt as more schools across the different states in Malaysia began to reopen since Sunday

Batman and Kamen Rider Mach were spotted at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kubang Kerian 3, Kota Bharu, Kelantan as the school reopened on Sunday, 1 January.

Meanwhile, popular Marvel superhero Iron Man made a surprise appearance at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Gelugor, Penang this morning.

Well done, teachers! :)
