"Datuk" Mistakenly Arrests Two Teens After Roughing Them Up For "Intruding"
There's a reason they say all criminals are innocent until proven guilty.
What started as a misunderstanding resulted in two boys getting beaten up by their friend's neighbour, a former cop who goes by the title "Datuk" in Section 8, Shah Alam on Friday (14 August)
It all started when the 17-year-old boys went over to their friend's place on Friday evening, where they were supposed to have a group study for their upcoming SPM exams
Upon learning that their friend was not at home, the boys walked into the house, as the gate had been left open, and decided to wait for him at the porch (No harm in that, no?).
thestar.com.myLittle did they know that their friend’s mother was in the house and the sight of the boys made her think she was in danger
After seeing the two teenagers enter her house, the mother called the neighbour, Datuk (a 64-year-old ex-policeman) who then came to her rescue in the most unexpected, or some would say, rather dramatic way.
malaysiakini.comLike a scene out of the movies, Datuk reportedly pulled up in front of the house in his BMW and exited with his gun drawn, shouting, “Intruders!”
The startled teens were too shocked to even explain themselves and merely raised their hand in surrender. However, Datuk allegedly continued to hold fire at gunpoint, approximately 30cm from one of the boy's face and later fired a shot into the air despite the boys raising their hands in surrender. He then ordered them to lie face down and proceeded to step on their heads while shouting expletives at them before calling the police.
wordpress.comThe handcuffed boys were then taken to Section 6 police station for questioning, but things took a turn for them when their friend showed up with his mother to clear the air over the incident which led the police to release the boys
Officers then took the boys to a clinic for treatment as one of them had suffered a bloodied nose after the attack by the Datuk.
thestar.com.myAfter pictures of both victims went viral, the friend in question took to social media to clarify the situation
“They are not stealing. How could they rob their best friend’s house? They came to my house to study. Can’t you see the bag the boy was carrying? The gate was open and they went in to see if there were people at home."
“When they saw that no one was at home, they went out and were caught by the neighbour and accused of stealing. This is all a misunderstanding,” said the friend who identified himself as Zharfanaiman.
A relative of one of the victims posted an account of events on Facebook, saying that that the boys only wanted an apology from the "Datuk" over the misunderstanding that left them all bloodied up. However, the "Datuk" is alleged to have refused to do so.
Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Shafien Mamat was tight-lipped on details which led up to the arrest, but he said that the officers who performed the arrest, Datuk and the two boys had all lodged police reports to explain their sides of the story
“We are investigating for trespassing, discharging a firearm outside of a gun range and voluntarily causing hurt. The case will be investigated according to Section 448 and 323 of the Penal Code for trespassing and voluntarily causing hurt and Section 39 of the Firearms Act 1960."
“A press conference on this case will be held tomorrow. That is all we will say for now,” he told reporters.
