A man was caught on CCTV stealing a woman's thong from a laundry basket at a self-service laundromat in Pattaya, Thailand

The man, dressed in a buttoned shirt and a black cap, arrived at the laundromat in Soi Paniad Chang 8 at around 12am on Monday, 11 November.

The suspect can be seen rummaging through a basket and pocketing the black undergarment before being confronted by the laundromat owner's daughter.

The man calmly claimed he was collecting his own clothes and the laundromat owner, Ms Kai, initially suspected nothing.

However, the man returned to the laundromat about an hour later, this time holding a white envelope

The man left the envelope, which contained the stolen garment, 1,000 baht (approximately RM128) in cash, and a note.

In the note, the man expressed deep remorse for his actions, writing, "From what I did today, I feel very stressed and regretful. What I did caused trouble for others, and I sincerely apologise to the owner of the laundromat and the owner of the clothes.

"I am compensating for the loss to punish myself and learn from this. Please forgive me and don't press charges. I will remember this lesson and never repeat it again."

Despite the apology and compensation, Kai felt unsettled by the man's behaviour and filed a police report at the Pattaya City police station

She provided the CCTV footage as evidence to the authorities, who are currently investigating the incident.

She also expressed hope that the incident would serve as a cautionary tale to others.
