In a video by KiniTV, Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh explained that the amount was not disclosed as Devadason had yet to calculate the total sum of his savings, which he had been collecting for "six to eight months."

Touched by the gesture, Yeoh gave Ervin the honour of symbolically handing over his "piggy bank" to DAP leader Lim Kit Siang at the DAP Segambut parliamentary office, Malay Mail reported.

According to Yeoh, Ervin's father had sent her an email explaining that the boy was passionate about helping to alleviate Malaysia's RM1 trillion national debt

The 12-year-old revealed that, "During and after the elections, I followed the news closely and saw that Malaysia needed help, so I decided to donate whatever I have as my part to contribute."

When Yeoh asked what he initially intended to use his savings for, Ervin told reporters that, "I was planning to buy a drum set with the money."

"This is the beautiful thing about Malaysia after 9 May, the young and old all want to play their part just to make Malaysia better," said Yeoh

On 30 May, it was announced that the official government trust fund was established to "provide a systematic and transparent platform to ensure all contributions and donations from the people are properly managed and organised."

Since then, the Tabung Harapan fund has collected nearly RM90 million in donations, Harian Metro reported.
