In Kulai District, a father allegedly forgot his one-year-old girl in the backseat of his car while it was parked outside his office in Saleng

NST reported that the baby girl was left in the backseat of the car for about five hours, resulting in her death, believed due to suffocation, yesterday, 13 September.

According to Kulai District Police Chief Superintendent Razak Md Said, the father himself lodged a police report at around 4.15pm on Tuesday about the incident.

His wife had placed their child in the backseat of the car for him to send to a babysitter's house by 9.30am. However, he drove from their house in Bandar Putra to his workplace without realising his daughter was in the backseat, Superintendent Razak told NST.

The father only realised the baby was in the car when the babysitter called him around 3pm to inquire as to why they did not send their child to her house as usual.

"He immediately rushed to the car and found the girl in a weak state and believed to have died," Razak was quoted as saying by NST.

The father took her to the Temenggung Seri Maharaja Tun Ibrahim Hospital, but it was too late as the on-duty medical officer pronounced the one-year-old as dead.

While a post-mortem would be carried out at 10am today to determine the exact cause of death, the case is being investigated under Section 31(a) of the Child Act 2001 for child neglect
