Tony Fernandes Wants Companies Responsible For Global IT Outage To Compensate AirAsia

The global cyber outage caused long queues at KLIA Terminal 2 last Friday, 19 July.

Capital A Berhad chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said the companies responsible for the global IT outage on Friday, July 19, should compensate AirAsia for the losses it sustained

Speaking to reporters yesterday, 23 July, Tony stated that the companies involved should offer compensation based on basic principles and ethics, reported Harian Metro.

"If I delay my flight, you will come after me for a refund, right? Or if I cancel my flight, it means I need to give you a refund.

"I shouldn't [have to] ask; they should come to me. Microsoft or whoever's right or wrong. They should offer us compensation. Right now, we have to wait and see.

"The principle is if we do something wrong, we have to compensate. They did something wrong; we and other airlines lost a lot," Malay Mail quoted him as saying.

Last Friday, the global IT outage affected banks, stock exchanges, and telecommunication companies around the world

Flights were grounded in several countries, while AirAsia suffered check-in and reservation complications.

According to Bernama, AirAsia's operations at KLIA Terminal 2 were fully restored on Saturday, 20 July, with the online check-in system becoming operational at 2pm on the same day.

The outage was linked to an update from American cybersecurity technology company Crowdstrike, causing computers running Windows to crash.

Microsoft said the outage affected nearly 8.5 million Microsoft devices, reported Malay Mail.
