As a Chang.Org petition, addressed to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, is asking for National Unity and Social Well-being Minister P. Waytha Moorthy to be sacked garners almost 300,000 signatures, Dr Tun Mahathir has said while people are free to express their opinion on the matter, it is up to him to decide

The Prime Minister, who was delivering a keynote address at the Malaysian Institute of Management (MIM) last night, told reporters that the decision to retain or sack the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department would be his and his alone.

"It is up to me to decide, (and) I haven't decided yet," he told reporters.

Tun Dr Mahathir also said that he was okay with Minister Waytha's performance so far.

The petition, which was started back in November by Gerakan Pengundi Sedar (GPS), received over 200,000 supporters following the news that fireman Adib Kassim passed away on Monday

Waytha was alleged to have failed to contain racial tensions over the riots at the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in Subang Jaya, in which fireman Adib was injured.

Adib and other rescuers from the Subang Jaya Emergency Response System unit were deployed to the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple to put out a vehicle fire on 27 November when Adib was dragged out of the EMRS vehicle and set upon by a mob.

He was later rescued by members of the public who rushed him to the Subang Jaya Medical Centre for treatment and later transferred to the National Heart Institute.
