85-year-old Ah Poh Law and 78-year-old Ion Nang were believed to have had difficulty breathing while waiting for their turn to collect coupons for free food.
According to Dang Wangi police chief Assistant Commissioner Shaharuddin Abdullah, a total of six senior citizens fainted at the event, New Straits Times reported.
"We dispatched personnel to the scene and found two bodies motionless on the floor," he said.
Initial investigations revealed that there was no foul play involved at the scene
According to the report, the ICC Pudu operator and hawker union were distributing free food coupons to senior citizens between 11am and 1pm.
The coupons were meant to be used to get free food at the market on 11 February.
"The organiser only allocated 200 coupons but more than 1,000 flooded the venue," said Shaharuddin.
The case has been classified as sudden death and the deceased bodies have been taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a post-mortem.
