Bangsar Fire Destroys Homes Of 40 People, 11 Cars, And 6 Motorcycles
The cause of the fire is yet to be known.
A massive fire destroyed the homes of 40 people in Bangsar at around 10am today, 28 January
The longhouse quarters of KTM Bhd employees and their family members were burnt to the ground during the blaze, which occurred near Bangsar LRT station and Sri Pahang flats.
"Two blocks comprising ten units were destroyed, affecting 29 bachelors and two families (11 people) – they lost all their belongings including their cars," wrote Lembah Pantai MP Fahmil Fadzil on Facebook today.
11 cars and six motorcycles were reportedly caught in the fire.
Additionally, Klinik Ibu dan Anak's windows and air conditioner compressors were also damaged by the fire.
Fire engines and personnel were immediately sent to the scene and the blaze was put out by around 11am
According to The Star, Pantai fire chief Hamid Daud said, "[Five] fire engines and 60 personnel from the Pantai, Hang Tuah, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Sentul, and Seputeh Fire Stations" arrived at the scene 13 minutes after they were notified.
Fortunately, no one was harmed or injured during the incident
According to Hamid, investigations are ongoing to find out the cause for the fire.
"[Our] men are now evaluating the scene, including floors five, six, and eight of the Sri Pahang flats near the long house which caught fire," he added, The Star reported.
"This is a very sad episode, and I'm sure those who would like to contribute can do so soon; I'm meeting the KTM CEO (Mohd Rani) tomorrow to discuss further on the kinds of assistance required," Fahmi wrote in the post.
Fahmi added that they will be looking into ways to rehouse the victims, as well as getting support from Jabatan Kebajikan (Welfare Department) and Baitulmal.
