A 21-year-old UiTM student has died after reportedly suffering a heat-related illness while taking part in an outdoor endurance activity at the university's Jengka campus in Pahang
According to Bernama, Fadhlan Fakhry Solana Mohd Fellimal died at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital (HOSHAS) in Temerloh at noon on Saturday, 5 September.
He was a final-year diploma student at UiTM's Seremban campus and a participant in the university's 2026 Komander Kesatria Endurance Challenge (KKEC).
Komander Kesatria is a uniformed student leadership and cadet organisation at UiTM.
KKEC is an annual programme that brings together Komander Kesatria participants from UiTM branches across Malaysia. This year's programme was scheduled to take place from 2 to 8 September at UiTM Pahang's Jengka campus.
UiTM Pahang said it has mobilised support for Fadhlan Fakhry's family and expressed its condolences
In a statement yesterday, 6 September, the university said it was providing support to the family, including assistance with funeral arrangements, documentation, transportation, and emotional support.
UiTM added that the KKEC programme had followed strict health and safety procedures, with all participants required to undergo a health examination before the programme began, as well as regular health screenings before each event.
"In fact, several participants had previously been asked to withdraw after failing the final screening," it said, adding that following the incident, the organisers cancelled outdoor activities scheduled for 6 September.
"UiTM takes this incident very seriously and will continue to closely monitor the situation to ensure the welfare of all parties involved," the university said.
Seven other students are still receiving treatment following the heat-related incident
According to Bernama, UiTM Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Shahrin Sahib@Sahibuddin said the students remain under medical treatment and monitoring at HOSHAS and Jengka Hospital.
At HOSHAS, he said Liya Zafirah Muhammad from UiTM's Perak branch is still receiving treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU), while Meor Aqil Wildan from the Perlis branch is under close monitoring.
The five students receiving treatment at Jengka Hospital are:
– Nur Nabihah Musyidah Md Nasri from UiTM Johor
– Nur Alia Farhana Abdul Fattah from UiTM Pahang
– Muhamad Adam Azfar Suzaini from UiTM Johor
– Muhammad Anas Shahrul Nizat from UiTM Johor
– Izzharith Zafran Muhammad Zulkarnain from UiTM Pahang
Shahrin said UiTM would continue working closely with the hospitals and the students' families to provide updates on their health conditions.
