Maran UMNO Youth chief Mohd Radzi Rahimi was among four individuals who died after a falling tree landed on their vehicle in Bentong, Pahang
According to the New Straits Times, the incident occurred at about 12.30pm yesterday, 3 August, along the old Kuala Lumpur-Bentong Road near Janda Baik.
Radzi, 40, was travelling in a pick-up truck with his wife, Nuriani Mohammad Jafri, 34; their 5-year-old twin sons, Muhammad Rizz Hazim and Muhammad Rizz Haziq; and his brother-in-law, Mohammad Nizam Mohammad Jafri, 35; when a tree suddenly fell onto the vehicle.
The family was returning to Maran after taking part in a motorcycle programme with youths from Maran in Pulau Pangkor, Perak, when the tree crushed their vehicle.
Muhammad Rizz Haziq survived the crash but suffered severe head injuries. He is currently receiving treatment at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital (HoSHAS).
Speaking to reporters, Radzi's father, Rahimi Abd Samad, 63, said his son had initially ridden a motorcycle to Pulau Pangkor as part of the convoy, while the rest of the family travelled separately in the pick-up truck
"They met in Bentong yesterday when one of Radzi's friends took over riding the motorcycle.
"Radzi, his family, and his brother-in-law then travelled to Genting Highlands for a short break," he said.
Rahimi believes the family spent a night in Genting Highlands before beginning their journey back to Maran. However, he was unsure why they had travelled via Janda Baik, where the fatal incident occurred.
He added that Radzi had been serving as the Maran UMNO Youth chief for the past two years.
Following the tragedy, UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi expressed his condolences in a Facebook post.
"My condolences to his entire family. No words can describe what they are going through.
"May Allah SWT give them the strength to face these tough times," Zahid wrote.
