UM Rises To 56th Place In Global University Rankings, Its Best Ranking So Far

Celebrating its 121st anniversary in 2026, the university outshone 31 other local institutions evaluated in the competitive global index.

Universiti Malaya (UM) has achieved its highest-ever global position, ranking 56th worldwide in the latest QS World University Rankings (QS)

The premier institution also leads local universities across several key performance metrics.

The rise from 58th place last year to 56th marks a historic milestone for UM, cementing its position among the top 3.7% of elite universities worldwide.

UM is part of the 1,504 institutions across 106 locations published in the final rankings by QS.

Celebrating its 121st anniversary in 2026, the university outshone 31 other local institutions evaluated in the competitive global index.

UM Vice-Chancellor Datuk Seri Dr Noor Azuan Abu Osman said the achievement is a testament to sharp institutional alignment and clear planning.

"It is the outcome of a university that has chosen discipline over complacency, execution over rhetoric, and collective purpose over mere conventional normalcy," Noor Azuan said.

On the international leaderboard, the university secured the 56th, 61st, 184th, and 166th spots respectively for academic reputation, employer reputation, employment outcomes, and sustainability

UM also scored an impressive overall score of 81.2.
