[VIDEO] Brothers Arrested After Snatch Theft Video Goes Viral On Social Media
The incident happened at Taman Limau Manis, Kota Bharu yesterday.
On 25 February, a video of an elderly woman getting her handbag snatched at Taman Limau Manis, Kota Bharu, went viral on social media
CCTV footage of the incident showed the 72-year-old woman walking towards her car with her left arm occupied with plastic bags and her handbag.
As she was about to enter her car, a man in a black T-shirt snuck up behind her and snatched her handbag, causing her to fall headfirst onto the ground.
The man escaped in a black car the moment the bag was successfully wrestled from the lady. However, the car's registration number was clearly caught in the video.
The injured elderly woman laid motionless on the ground for close to a minute before she tried to get up, only to fall into the drain instead
The woman appeared to call for help. Though three cars and a motorcyclist passed by the scene, nobody came to her assistance.
Help finally arrived a few minutes later when three men approached the lady and pulled her out of the drain.
According to The Star, the victim suffered minor head injuries and was admitted to Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II for treatment.
Following the incident, police arrested the two men, aged 27 and 33, within 90 minutes of the incident
The Star reported that a witness gave the police the registration number of the car which the snatch thefts used to flee the scene with.
The suspects, who are reportedly brothers, were nabbed at the elder brother's father-in-law's residence at Jalan Bayam around 2pm.
According to Malaysiakini, police later revealed the car belongs to the elder brother's father-in-law.
Police also confirmed that the duo tested positive for methamphetamine.
