Russian daredevil couple Ivan Beerkus and Angela Nikolau proved that they were indeed on top of the world after uploading videos of themselves at the top of Merdeka 118 today, 29 December

"The top of Merdeka 118 (679m). It's the second-tallest building in the world! I can't describe my emotions," said Beerkus in the caption of the video, which had over 80,000 views at the time of writing.

"[It's] the most beautiful building where I have ever been."

Separately, Nikolau also confirmed her latest feat, saying Merdeka 118 is the most beautiful skyscraper she has ever been in.

Their Instagram posts today come after some Malaysians doubted that the couple actually scaled Southeast Asia's tallest building because the colours of their shoes were different in the initial photos

Despite the netizens' sharp observation, their claim fails to hold water because Beerkus' video shows him and Nikolau standing on the spire of the tower as the drone camera zooms out.

Meanwhile, Nikolau's video shows her sitting on the edge of the spire, with her legs hanging in the air.

Both videos show the lush greenery among the tall buildings, with the Kuala Lumpur Tower in the background.

Nikolau, in a tweet yesterday, 28 December, said that she managed to scale Merdeka 118 without being imprisoned

However, the police are currently investigating the case.

"They will be investigated under the Penal Code for trespassing," Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Datuk Yahaya Othman told New Straits Times.

"We have not received a report from the building owner about the incident yet."

If Beerkus and Nikolau are convicted under Section 447 of the Penal Code, they could be jailed for up to six months, fined up to RM3,000, or both.

The couple has scaled skyscrapers in Hong Kong, China, Russia, Thailand, and France:
