Woman Being Denied Vote In KL After She Was Unknowingly Registered As Postal Voter

A woman in Kuala Lumpur is claiming that she is being denied to vote after she discovered that she was mistakenly registered as a postal voter in the Election Commission's (EC) database
In a series of tweets, Twitter user Aisha Adam said she was turned away by an EC officer at Sekolah Kebangsaan Setiawangsa this morning, 19 November, because her name is not in the polling centre's manual list of registered voters.
She said the officer then asked her to make a plea to the EC's director about the situation, but she would not be allowed to cast a ballot today.
The 36-year-old is now staying put at the polling centre in protest of the issue until it closes
Aisha said she will then make a police report at the end of the day.
"I will not leave until they give me a solution," said the adamant voter, who has been at the school since 8am.
"For some magical reason, I was registered as a postal voter and my ballot paper was sent to Australia."
Aisha told SAYS that she actually found out that she was registered as a postal voter online three days ahead of polling day
However, the experienced voter brushed the issue off as she had voted twice before in the 2013 and 2018 general elections using the same address and personal info, and she did not sign up for postal voting.
"I called the EC offices, but to no avail. Then I thought, the electoral roll has been finalised, so I gave it the benefit of the doubt... I was hoping that there was a chance it was a glitch," she said.
As proof, she also showed this SAYS writer that her IC number is not linked to an online MySPR account, which is needed to register for postal voting.
Aisha added that being accidentally registered as a postal voter does not excuse the EC from denying her the right to vote today.
"This is a big problem. This is my personal information and a data breach. Secondly, how can the EC suddenly register me as a postal voter? And thirdly, this is voter suppression," she said.
