A woman was shocked to discover that a delivery rider she had been waiting for had died in a road accident after failing to respond to her messages for almost two hours

"I had goosebumps; I was so shocked and deeply saddened when I found out what had actually happened because I was the one who placed the order," said Fathin Aleya to Harian Metro.

Fathin, 27, garnered attention after sharing a screenshot on social media of a message she had sent to the delivery rider that went unanswered.

Tragically, the rider had not ignored her message. He had died following a road traffic accident.

Recounting the incident, Fathin, a finance executive, said she ordered a rubber stamp at 10.30am on 28 October, with the rider scheduled to deliver it later that day

"The delivery was from Shah Alam, Selangor, to my office near Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur.

"After placing the order, I carried on with my work as usual. An hour later, I found it strange that the item had still not arrived, and the GPS tracking the rider's movement hadn't budged either.

"But I tried to stay positive, thinking he might be waiting to pick up another order. So, while waiting, I chatted with a colleague.

"I then messaged the rider, but it was neither read nor replied to. I waited another two hours and noticed the location was still exactly the same, which was when I started to get a bad feeling," she told Harian Metro.

According to Fathin, she was not angry. Her colleague, who suspected that the rider might have been involved in an accident, suggested she call him

"The first call went unanswered… after that, my colleague tried calling again, and an unknown individual answered, informing us that the rider had been in a crash and had died at the scene.

"I was completely speechless. Afterwards, I left a message in the chat section of the delivery app because there was no contact number for customer service," she said, adding that a few minutes later, the delivery company contacted her to take a statement.

Regarding her post, which caught the public's attention, Fathin explained that her intention was to locate the rider's next of kin, as they could not be reached at the time

Unexpectedly, her post gained traction, with several netizens also sharing what had happened.

"So far, only the deceased's close friends have contacted me, and I have yet to receive a call from his family members. Even though I did not know him, I pray that his soul is placed among the righteous.

Fathin said working as a delivery rider is a risky job, and that riders work incredibly hard, come rain or shine.

"Even when they are exhausted, get scolded, or have to travel far, they still accept and deliver orders patiently. So, to everyone placing orders, please be patient even if you have to wait a long time, because we don't know what happens on the roads. Please pray for their safety."
