Former Energy, Science, Technology, Environment, and Climate Change (MESTECC) Yeo Bee Yin's time came to an end on Monday, 24 February

"I recall the early days of MESTECC, when they didn't even have a name and acronym for the ministry, as the ministry [was] a combination of three ministries – Ministry of Water, Land, and Natural Resources (NRE), Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment, and Climate Change (KeTTHA), and Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOST)," she said in a Facebook post.

She added those who have joined her in meetings and on-the-ground operations before know that the experience might not have always been pleasant.

She continued by saying, "Indeed, this ex-minister of yours was not the easiest to work with – demanding, precise, impatient, and to a point, yes, garang! (strict). For that, I would like to extend my apologies to any of you who were offended or hurt by me in the process; please know that it was never intentional nor personal."

However, Yeo tells MESTECC officers that she is proud to have worked with all of them and has learned a lot in these past 20 months she has been in office

"For the record I am very proud to head this office because of all of you. I've seen many of you serving the country excellently and sincerely in the civil service."

"Not because of the power that come with the ministership, but because of the precious opportunity to serve the people and build the country together with you," says Yeo.

She has always received good words and compliments from other ministers about her officers, of which she often replies with, "Of course, [they are] from MESTECC!"

Unfortunately, she will not be able to see through the work on the recently launched 130 MESTECC Initiatives 2020 but hopes that the next minister will push 2020 to greater heights

"I hope that you'll continue to serve the nation with integrity and excellence," she said.

Yeo then recalls a phrase in her speech during monthly assemblies, "Always strive to pursue excellence in everything we do so that the rakyat will get the best from us."

She ended her speech by reminding her former staff to never forget MESTECC's slogan, 'Own it, Do it, Ace it!'
