Ever wondered what it's like inside the Malaysian Parliament? Well, the Dewan Rakyat chamber is opening its doors to the public for its 'Malaysian Parliament Open Day 2026' on 12 and 13 September.

According to Bernama, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul said the open day aims to bring the public closer to Parliament and allow them to experience the country's "House of Democracy" first-hand.

He said the two-day event will also commemorate the 67th anniversary of Parliament.

"Parliament is where democracy begins, as it brings together representatives of the people.

"We want people to experience Parliament first-hand rather than simply viewing it from a distance. Come inside and see for yourselves. This is Parliament, this is your House," Johari said during an appearance on Bernama TV's Ruang Bicara programme yesterday, 1 September.

The Dewan Rakyat will not be in session during the open day, allowing visitors to take part in exhibitions and public engagement activities

More than 40 ministries and government agencies will be there, including Perbadanan PR1MA Malaysia, Residensi Wilayah, MyFutureJobs, and Bank Rakyat. Visitors, particularly young people, can learn more about government services, as well as career and financing opportunities.

Johari also highlighted youth development as a priority for Parliament, saying more initiatives could be introduced to give young people greater exposure to Dewan Rakyat proceedings and encourage their participation in programmes such as the National Service Training Programme and Malaysian Youth Parliament.

"We have a dedicated building for the Youth Parliament within Parliament, where young people aged 18 to 30 are given the opportunity to learn and prepare for a future as MPs," he said.
